EcoSmart Dines At Boneta

April 16, 2008

We dropped into one of the newer restaurants on the Vancouver scene, Boneta (they haven’t been open for quite a year yet). They are located in a very cool refurbished building in Gastown. We were curious to check it out as we’d heard about their attention to sustainability during the construction phase, and being eco-conscious in how they operate.

From what we read and were told, a good portion of the furniture has been made from eco-friendly material and/or recycled materials from other establishments…and they try to source local providers as much as possible.

I had the Halibut Filet which was very nice and the two others dining with me raved about the seared scallops dish. And of course we took a pretty good swipe at the wine list…be sure to ask what’sĀ availableĀ that isn’t listed, there were a couple of gems.

All in all, a great new dining spot, with an eco-friendly sensibility.

You can find it 1 West Cordova, (Gastown) Vancouver, BC

I’ve been looking for your product for a couple of years. Yipee!

Just a word on your eco-friendly visit to Boneta. One of the world’s biggest environmental disasters, other than biofuels, is eating high on the food chain. Half of the world’s grain is fed to food animals.
Seafood is not a huge step above land animal use, because most of it is also high on the food chain. Fisheries worldwide are collapsing and have been for some time. We can’t be eating like this.
Other than that, keep up the good work and the good discussions on the blog.
    Cheers,
