Non-toxic Shock – watch this video!

January 19, 2009

We’re all over the non toxic bandwagon but it really hit home when we watched this. Thank you Environmental Working Group for this very shocking study.

This video has launched us into a series of non-toxic alternatives. Stay tuned for more soon.

Rub-a-dub-dub – ewwww there’s chemical’s in the suds!

January 15, 2009

Wash your hands!  Its germ season and washing your hands is even more important at this time of year.

And while it’s important to wash your hands, it’s also important to think about the soap that we’re putting down the drain.

Every day we unintentionally flush and wash toxins down the drain. A lot come from our hygienic need to stay clean and anti-bacterial free. But we’re not doing our environment or ourselves any good.

Make a small change – with your hand soap.

Here are 3 brands we’d lather up with!

Kiss My Face – Pure Olive Oil Soap

Kiehl’s Aloe Vera Biodegradable hand soap- is the first cradle to cradle certified beauty product.

Nature’s Clean Castille Hand Soap available at Frog File Office Supplies.

See some more information on this market place documentary from CBC about household cleaners (perhaps you’ll see some other areas around the house that can go non-toxic)

Increase indoor air quality and save money

January 10, 2009

It took many years to realize that the lightheaded, fuzzy feeling I was getting always followed a freshly cleaned floor or mirror.

While we hear a lot on the news about air pollution from industry and transportation, there’s less about the chemicals that we use everyday.

So, when I bought the Green Clean Book, I knew I had found my housecleaning solution!

With just a few household ingredients, the floors sparkle, the mirrors are spotless and everything else smells clean and fresh – without the chemicals.

The recipe Green Clean has listed on their website is for mirrors and windows. And they’re right – it works like a treat.

2 teaspoons of vinegar, 2 cups of warm water, a spray bottle

It works better than anything else I’ve used and costs pennies.

Vancouver School Gets “Green”

January 7, 2009

We wanted to acknowledge Vancouver, BC school Magee Secondary for taking a big step in becoming a “greener” school. They have started to introduce the AusPen eco-friendly markers into their school this term, as they placed an order right before the holidays. We thank them for that. They join several other schools in the Vancouver School District that are making the transition away from tossing disposable whiteboard markers out and using the AusPen eco-friendly alternative (AusPen markers never end up in landfills, they’re refillable, made from recycled material and they don’t stink).

The city of Vancouver and residents of the Lower Mainland can thank Magee as well, as their initial order will keep thousands and thousands of non-biodegradable, toxic markers out of the local landfills – representing hundreds of pounds of waste that won’t be trucked to the dump from their school. Great job Magee and thanks again.
